Facing Our Walls
Joshua 6 – Obedience for our good and God’s glory
Sunday focus – Identify your wall
Day 1
We all have something in our lives that nags us, intimidates us, overwhelms us, something that we can’t seem to conquer. Oftentimes we focus on people who seem to get in the way of our happiness, but people can’t make us unhappy any more than they can make us happy. Our walls could come in the form of habits, circumstances, or some other change that we have longed for in our lives. Let’s see how we can apply Joshua 6 to our situations. The same God that had a plan for toppling the walls of Jericho has a plan for our walls as well.

Monday focus – Trust is a mindset
Day 2
There’s a common saying in sports: ” trust the process.” It means that we must go along with the game plan that’s been laid out for us if we want to reach our goal. But it’s difficult to buy in without trust in the one who created the process. In Joshua 6, God said to the children of Israel that He would deliver Jericho into their hands. We have to trust God to do the same for us. We might think “Jericho was a specific event for a specific group of people. How do I know that God will bring me victory over my wall?” The answer is in John 10:10, where Jesus said, “I have come that you might have life, and have it more abundantly.” The Jericho victory was not a one-time thing, any more than the first Passover, the Red Sea, or the Jordan River. Today we focus on committing in our heart to trusting God, believing that He will show us how to conquer the wall that we’re facing.

Tuesday focus – God’s instructions are non-negotiable
Day 3
Today’s focus is to listen and accept what God is calling us to do about our walls. Resist the urge to make what a co-worker or loved one should do / could do / may do, part of the solution and accept God’s plan for us. No shortcuts. No workarounds. No excuses. No extras. Let God be God.

Wednesday focus – Start marching
Day 4
Now it’s time to get moving. But…maybe God’s instructions seem too simple. Maybe we should be doing more to conquer the wall. We may be worried that God’s instructions make us look foolish. Or maybe we’re thinking “what if this doesn’t work? People will think I’m an idiot.” Remember: God saw the wall before we did; He knows what it takes to conquer it for our good and His glory. If we can’t march with confidence yet, returning to Monday’s focus will help get us there. Trust is a mindset.

Thursday focus – See a victory
Day 5
As we march, we’re getting closer and closer to toppling the wall. It may take days, weeks, months, years...it may take a lifetime. But if we stay on the path, each day we are one day closer. OneFaith family, let’s journey together and encourage one another along the way so that we don’t get weary.

Friday focus – SHOUT!
Day 6
Give God praise as His promise is being fulfilled. When we look back on where you started and how insurmountable our wall seemed at the time, we can recognize that God is the one who is bringing us through, and we can thank Him for His faithfulness.

Saturday focus – Share your story
Day 7
Saturday focus – Share your story. God’s promise is for all His children. Let’s make it a point to introduce someone to the God who delivered our “Jericho” into our hands and encourage them to trust God to do the same for them. This victory was not only for our good but for His glory, which he absolutely deserves. And let’s share the story with ourselves, too; maybe write about it in a journal or create a symbol of the toppled wall as a reminder of how God rewarded our obedience. We’ll need to remember this experience the next time we’re facing a wall.
